U.S.
Muslim Family Evicted from Aircraft United Airlines
News Update-Chicago - A
Muslim family in the United States expelled from United Airlines, for security
reasons. This family is urging a formal apology from the airline.
As reported by CNN,
Monday (04/04/2016), the incident occurred at O'Hare International Airport,
Chicago, March 20, when the family is asking one of the flight crew about the
special child seat for their child. The pair were traveling with three small
children. Suddenly, one of the crew said they had to leave the plane for the
sake of flight safety. This incident caught on video posted to YouTube.
"We are tired of
hearing the passengers dressed Muslims expelled from the aircraft for
unconvincing reasons, the claim is not clear about the 'security'," said
Ahmed Rehab of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which
represents the family.
Described Rehab, this
family has been trying to inquire about the child's special seat at the
boarding gate before entering the plane, but were told to ask on the plane
because the computer system is in trouble. On the plane, the crew even asked
the family did not use a special child seat and they obeyed.
But after that, the
family is asked to show their tickets and immediately told them to be off the
plane. The father asked me why the expulsions to the flight crew. A man who
looks dressed like a pilot, in the video, said: "Because it was my
decision."
The mother who wear the
hijab then asked: "Is this discriminatory decision, and why?"
"Because of this
flight safety issue," said a man dressed as a pilot in the video.
The family was last off
the plane and boarded another flight. "I feel distinguished, humiliated
and helpless," the mother said in a statement released by CAIR.
In response to this
incident, the airline United Airlines stated it is associated about special
child seat. "They were supposed to fly with SkyWest 5811, which operates
as United Airlines from Chicago O'Hare to Washington DC, but we put them on the
next flight because of security fears their child seats, which do not comply
with federal safety regulations," the official statement of the airline.
"Both United and
SkyWest require our employees hold the highest professional standards and do
not tolerate discrimination," he added. (N / U)
